NEW YORK REGULATION 187 TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Required Industry Training
The New York Regulation 187 will require industry training for anyone selling annuities in NY effective 8/1/2019 and also for anyone selling life insurance in NY effective 2/1/2020. We recommend that you take the industry training through the RegEd website. Here are the instructions:
- Got to RegEd website: https://www.reged.com/annuities-training-platform/
- The NY State Regulation 187 training is under the State Suitability section. From there, click “Proceed”
- Click “Select New Courses and CE Credit”
- Choose whether or not you would like CE (CE has a cost component and requires an in person proctor for the exam). Click “Proceed”
- Choose “NY Reg 187, Suitability & Best Interest of Clients in Life Insurance & Annuity Transaction Course Code: 484_NY”
- From there you can “Proceed” to take the course
Additionally, under the provisions of Regulation 187, many carriers will require product training prior to submission of applications dated February 1 or later, even if you are already contracted and selling the product. Regulation 187 Bulletin. No specific product training is required other than reviewing their product overview sheet which can be found in LIMRA or email us. There is a new suitability and best interests form that must be submitted with the application.
